Pichwai painting
This is the second pichwai painting I tried, of course under the guidance of expert from Nathdwara. The first one is of , “Shri Krishna Radha”.
This time I tried only Krishna with cow.
Pichwai paintings are highly detailed and intricate, often featuring multiple layers of colors to create depth and visual interest. The colors are chosen carefully to convey the specific narrative, emotion, and symbolism associated with the subject matter, which is often centered around the divine and the stories of Lord Krishna.

You can see there are very few prominent colors used. The colors used in making Pichwai painting are natural colors.
Colors play a significant role in Pichwai paintings, as they contribute to the overall aesthetic and convey various emotions and themes. Here are some of the colors commonly used in Pichwai painting:
- Red: Often used to depict the divine and symbolize love, passion, and auspiciousness. Red is commonly used for depicting Lord Krishna’s clothing, ornaments, and accessories.
- Blue: Blue is the iconic color associated with Lord Krishna, particularly his depiction as Krishna playing the flute or in his form as Lord Shrinathji. It represents divinity, tranquility, and spirituality.
- Green: Green is used to depict lush landscapes, foliage, and natural surroundings. It represents nature, growth, and harmony. It is also used for portraying the peacock feather worn by Lord Krishna.
- Yellow: Yellow is associated with Lord Krishna’s playfulness and energy. It is often used for depicting his clothing and accessories.
- Gold: Gold is used to add richness to the paintings, often used for intricate details, jewelry, and ornaments.
- White: White is used to depict purity, spirituality, and light. It is often used for highlighting elements and creating contrasts.
- Black: Black is used for outlines and defining shapes. It is not typically a dominant color but helps in enhancing the overall composition.
- Orange: Orange is used for highlighting and adding accents to various elements in the painting.
- Brown: Brown is used for depicting earthly elements such as trees, animals, and other natural features.
- Other Colors: Pichwai paintings can also incorporate other colors as needed to create a rich and vibrant composition. These may include shades of pink, purple, and other hues.
It is really divine experience to paint Pichwai painting. This is not only art , but also connects with divine energy. That’s what I felt. 🙂
