Deepavali special – Candle stand making at home
Deepavali festive season. As we know all require candle stands or terracotta deepas. Here I am sharing a tutorial of candle stand making at home. This method involves the materials available at home. Here I have used empty cans of beverages.
Materials required for candle stand making at home
Apart from empty cans , the following materials are required:
- Decoupage tissue
- Decoupage glue
- White gesso and black gesso
- Glue
- Gold flakes(If available)
- Thick thread
- Brush, sponge
- Chalk paint
I am making two candle stands. So for these, I am using two different techniques.
Steps :
- Clean and remove the wrapper around the can. For some cans the wrappers cannot be removed, those can be used as it is.
I want candle stands in two sizes, so I have cut the one can short.
First one with decoupage:
- Apply white gesso all over
- Remove the extra papers on the decoupage tissue.
- The apply decoupage glue on small area. Slowly stuck the decoupage tissue on the can.
4. Once it dries apply chalk paint, wherever required, with sponge.
Let it dry for sometime. A varnish or gloss can be added if required.
The second one is using thread winding.
- Apply glue all over the surface of the can.
2. Stick (wind) thick thread on the glue applied surface.
3. Apply black gesso allover
4. Apply gold flakes wherever required with glue
5.
You can embellish with whatever embellishments you have. I have done with bead strands.
Happy deepavali !!!
