Designing a saree with old baluchari saree border
Baluchari sarees are very elegant sarees whichare from West Bengal state of India. It is renowned for its intricate craftsmanship and distinctive features.
Baluchari sarees are known for their elaborate and detailed pallu (the loose end of the saree) that often features scenes from mythology, epics (like the Ramayana and Mahabharata), and historical tales. These motifs resemble miniature paintings.Common themes include depictions of gods, goddesses, royal processions, and courtly life.
I had a Baluchari saree, which was very old. This I had bought from a thrift shop. This is the saree I had.
This is orange in color with green woven border. The border and Pallu had Geetopadesha scenes, woven into it. The saree anyhow was very old and could not be worn as it is. So I thought of using the saree border to design a saree.I have chosen a Tussar like material with zari dots. I attached the borders on bothe sides and pallu on the end.
In between I attached the small motifs whic were on the saree. Around the motif, I embelished with herringbone and buttonhole stitch:
Also I used morror work here and there on the saree. This is how it looks when worn:
This looks something different. It is always nice to use the old saree borders to design a saree.
