Easy to make handmade rakhis
Every year I send handmade rakhis to my brothers and cousins. Last week I had shared about some easy and creative DIY Rakhis. In this post sharing the Rakhees I made this year.
What is rakhi?
Rakhi, also known as Raksha Bandhan, is a Hindu festival that celebrates the bond of love and protection between brothers and sisters. The word “Rakhi” translates to “a protective thread” or “a bond of protection.” The festival is usually observed on the full moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Shravana, which typically falls in August.
During Rakhi, sisters tie a decorative thread (rakhi) around their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of their love and protection. In return, brothers offer gifts and promise to protect and support their sisters. The festival emphasizes the close relationship between siblings and the importance of looking out for each other.
Rakhi has cultural and religious significance, but it also promotes a broader sense of community and unity among people. It’s not limited to biological siblings; people often exchange rakhis with close friends and cousins as well. The festival has become a time for family gatherings, feasting, and sharing happiness.
Handmade Rakhis made this year:
