Handmade Rakhee with Soutache
This is the season of festivals in India. In the previous post I have shared about Varamahalakshmi pooje, celebrated in South India and some parts of Maharashtra. The purpose of festival is to improve bond between human beings. The festival in which the special bond between sisters and brothers is celebrated is Raksha Bhandhan. Nothing can be compared to the sweet relationship between, brothers and sisters. “Brothers and sister”-they live the childhood together, they are friends as well as enemies , they fight but always support each other. Though the relationship is celebrated everyday, by showing love, fighting , caring, supporting etc, Raksha Bhadhan is occasion , in which a sister ties a Rakhee to brother as respect of the relationship.
Every year I try to make handmade Rakhees to send to my brothers. Last year I tried with Polymer clay and a few years ago with quilling. This year tried in Soutache. Soutache is kind of embroidery from Russia. Russians make beautiful jewels also ,from Soutache braids. I had some Soutache braids and Kundans , so tried making Rakhis with Soutache braids.
I could not make any complicated designs, though many beautiful designs can be made by the braids. I just used spiral designs. In Soutache , the braids are sewed, because of shortage of time, I used adhesive. Here are the Rakhees I made:
Four different colors, here are the closer views:
These designs are very simple. Planning to make some jewels from Soutache braids.
Now I know what Soutache is.
Nice rakhis, dear Ranjana. 🙂
That is colorful and nice 🙂
