Kasuti embroidery on a saree
Though many people love Kasuti embroidery, I was not keen on learning or embroidering. Most of embroidery lovers know about Kasuti embroidery. It is known as folk embroidery of Karnataka. This is embroidered using net. I thought it is very clumsy. Recently I saw some sarees , Kasuti embroidered, using machine. Though these are machine embroidered, those look very elegant. In embroidery, though machine embroidery is neat, but the elegancy and uniqueness, of hand embroidery is something different.
I came across some designs of Kasuti embroidery in some design book. I have seen some sarees made using these designs. So went ahead of using these designs traced, rather than the method of using net. Thought the outcome is slightly different, but overall it is looking nice for me. Hope you will also like this method. 🙂
Here is the saree:
It is a simple design, along the border. I have used light blue, white and golden silk threads.
All over the saree, I have embroidered , small motifs.
The pallu has only small motifs all over:
When worn :
The pallu single layered and spread:
The pallu looks like stars studded. In between each motif I have used white and blue square shaped Kundans.
The closer view :
Though it is not embroidered following the traditional method of Kasuti, that is using nets for the embroidery, I enjoyed embroidering it. I have struggled to choose proper color combination of the threads. The end result is satisfactory to me. This has inspired me to start one more Kasuti saree. I have gifted this to my friend, so I have to make one more for myself 🙂
