Kerala Mural On Bamboo
My Kerala Mural learning started with this canvas painting.
What is Kerala Mural?
This I have written already in many posts, I am continously working with Kerala Mural paintings. Though I will explain it here breifly.
Kerala mural refers to a form of traditional painting that originated in the Indian state of Kerala. These murals are characterized by their vibrant colors, intricate detailing, and depiction of mythological themes, religious stories, and cultural motifs. Kerala murals typically adorn the walls of temples, palaces, churches, and other religious or ceremonial structures.
The themes of Kerala murals often revolve around Hindu mythology, depicting scenes from epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as stories of gods and goddesses like Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna, and Devi. They also showcase elements of everyday life, nature, and celestial beings, reflecting the cultural and spiritual beliefs of the region.
Artisans have started modernize the art and nowadya we can see Kerala Mural painted on fabrics, sarees, duppatas, shirts , pots and bamboo.
I have painted Kerala mural on bamboo too. Earlier I had painted on bamboo with Krishna design. I felt that need a pair . So this one is Radha painting on bamboo.
This is the closer view:
Kerala murals are not only celebrated for their artistic beauty but also for their cultural significance. They serve as a visual representation of Kerala’s rich heritage and are an integral part of the state’s cultural identity. Efforts are underway to preserve and promote this ancient art form, ensuring that it continues to thrive and inspire future generations. I will start one more such painting. This is as a gift, another one I will keep for myself.
