Kutchwork embroidery saree
I am really excited to share this Kutchwork embroidery saree. It took really long for me to complete the embroidery on the saree. I had shared in the work in progress post, before starting embroidery on the saree.
Kutchwork is a kind of embroidery, which is also called as interlacing embroidery in the west. This takes little effort to learn the kutchwork embroidery, but the beauty of the embroidery stitch is worth taking the effort. Normally the basic Kutchwork motifs are small, and in square shape. The designer can extend the basic idea of interlacing technique to make bigger motifs. There are two types of interlacing technique followed. Both the techniques are same, little bit difference in the corners. But the finished embroidery gives different look. The Kutchwork basics can be learned from this tutorial.
On the kutchwork embroidery saree I made, I have used motifs in two sizes alternatively. One motif is big one, nearly one foot in length, another is smaller one.
The big motif is paisley design, with length is almost one foot. It took nearly 4-5 days to complete one motif 🙂
And the small motif is one fourth of the size of the big motif and it is Kalasha shape:
When worn the saree looks like this

I have used silk embroidery thread for this embroidery, also attached some kundans. It took lot of time to complete this embroidery, but after finishing this I felt , it is worth the effort.
I have started embroidering on some more saree, I will share about those once they are done.
