Paisley patchwork on saree – Machine embroidery
Phew! At last I finished making the patchwork saree. Here I have used paisley patchwork on saree. This project I had started few months back. I have designed many dresses, kalamkari patchwork on sarees and quilts with patch work.
When I started designing this saree , my embroider machine was working fine. I could not work with that machine for a year. An when i started to work again, there were many problems. I got it repaired , still the thread was getting cut frequently while embroidering. So I again sent it for service. The person who repaired said the motor was running too fast. I am writing this because for many of the beginners in machine embroidery, this will helpful to know , “Why the thread of the sewing machine is getting cut frequently?”. Now my embroidery machine working fine.
Here are the fabrics I selected,

Fabrics selected
The saree fabric is somewhat like satin silk, with allover buttas, then for border I have used a brocade fabric in green color.

The motif
I have cut of the motifs from a fabric and used for the patchwork on saree.
This is how it looks:

Along the border patchwork
All along the lower border I have done patchwork on saree, with paisley design. I haven’t done anything on the body of the saree, since the fabric is very bright. I just wanted to tone down the color little bit.

The closer view of the patchwork on saree
You can see, the zari of the motifs too are dull, that’s the reason I have chosen this motif for the saree.I haven’t used zari thread. Instead of that I have used simple silk thread in green color. These all efforts to tone down the brightness of the color of the saree.
This is how it looks on mannequin:

When worn
Because my embroidery machine is running fine now, I have started another saree with Kalamakari patchwork. 🙂
The illustration of the saree design process is shared on my you tube channel.
