Six basic tools for crocheting

Crocheting is very easy to learn and we can make many projects using crochet. In this post I am just giving briefs of the basic tools for crocheting, one should have before staring any crochet project.

Before listing the tools, I just want to give an idea, what all we can make in crochet. Crochet doilies are loved by many. These can be used to decorate a table, or we can also frame a crochet doily and hang on a wall. Doilies are made from ages.

Crochet baby dresses, hats, collars, frills, laces, window curtains, table cover, bed covers- the list is endless.

Now the latest trend is making saree edges, or saree Kucchu using crochet.

Crochet products have good demand in the market too.

So if you want to learn and make crochet projects, you need some basic tools for that.

Crochet hook :

Crochet hook is the most essential tool for crocheting. With this you need yarn too. Only one hook is used for crocheting.

Crochet hooks are easily available in market. And these come in different sizes. The hook size should be chosen according to thickness of the thread. There are many kinds of materials in which crochet hooks are made. The most common ones are steel and aluminum hooks. Some produce wooden hooks too. These don’t cost so much.

Crochet yarn:

Crochet yarns are available in plenty of varieties, colors and textures.These are too not so expensive, though some are expensive. There are different blends in crochet threads, like silk, cotton, cotton- cotton etc. Silk blends and zari blends cost more. The yarns should be chosen depending on the project. May be at the beginning, it is quite difficult to assume how much yarn is required for a crochet project. But with experience one can assume how much thread is required for a crochet project.

Stitch markers:

Stitch marker is used to mark the end of the project, or mark a point where we need to change the stitch type or color of the threads etc. These are mainly used for big projects.

Scissors, sewing thread and needle:

Everyone who works with thread needs scissors. So for crochet too, we need scissors.

Then needle and sewing thread,- these are used for attaching a lace on fabric, or if we need to hide the end yarn in a crochet project.
