Varamahalakshmi- Decorations
As usual busy with attending some craft workshops for past 15 days. So could not post anything. And then festivals. Varamahalaksmi Vrata- is a festival celebrated in South India and Maharashtra. In this festival Goddess Lakshmi, is worshiped and married women are invited and given fruits and kumkum(Vermilion) .
Any festival , decoration of the place where the idol of God is placed , is done very beautifully. I had written in one of my posts how I had decorated Ganesh Mantap. Yesterday I was invited by some of my friends to attend Varamahalakshmi pooja. In each house the decoration was unique. I captured some photos.
The idol of Goddess Lakshmi is not an actual idol. A coconut is placed on a pot and the face of Goddess Lakshmi made of silver or any other metal is attached to the coconut. Hands made out of cloth is attached. The the saree is wrapped around the pot. Here is the closer view
Here is another decoration, with little difference. Here the Goddess Lakshmi’s face is not made of silver or any other metal, but wooden. This looks realistic.
The idol looks so realistic. The hands and feet are made out of cotton and cloth.Very divine. The place is also well decorated with flowers and Rangoli:
I liked the ready-made Rangoli very much:
Most of the festivals in India, with the religious motto have another purpose of exhibiting women’s talent in decorating and their interest in crafts. But slowly Varamahalakshmi pooje is becoming a way to show off the wealth . Whatever, because the interest of some women , in decoration, make the festival a feast to eyes.
Made some Rakhis with soutache threads. Will share in the next post.
Until then,
