Velvet saree design
This velvet saree designing is a long pending project. I had some velvet fabric and I had bought it with the idea of making a saree. If velvet saree is made using entirely with velvet, that becomes very heavy to wear. So I was searching suitable fabric for the velvet saree design. I found lace material from Sri Rampura cotton market of Bengaluru.
This is the lace material I bought from the market.

The lace fabric
It is matching with the maroon velvet fabric and perfect for the half and half saree idea I had. I sewed both the fabric together, and attached a zari embroidered lace on the border. The velvet fabric is the pallu, on that I sewed some zardozi motifs.

The two fabrics are attached together
The half of the saree, with velvet and zardozi motifs:

When it is worn, it looks like this:

Though I have chosen lighter fabric like lace fabric for the half of the velvet saree, still it is heavier. Designing a blouse for this using both the fabric. I will share about the blouse design in the coming week, so keep visiting my blog. 🙂
