Work In Progress on Wednesday- Quilt making
I’m returning to sewing projects. After many months, I’m using my sewing machines :). I was so busy in learning different kinds of crafts, like decoupage, paintings etc. Could not find time to work with any of my dress design or saree designing. If the sewing machine is not used for ling time , it doesn’t stitch properly. That is too irritating. It is very important to take care of sewing machine .
Quilt making – this week’s WIP:
Quilt making is always my favourite in sewing. I love to make quilts with patchworks on it. Normally it is good gift to a new born baby. I had also made one quilt for my son , when he was 7 years old. It is a fun story :). How I was terrorized and had great loss :), you can read it here.
Now want to make 3-4 quilts using applique and painting, as I have to gift these to a new born baby. This week , I have taken up a simple quilt with a printed fabric, which I had bought from SriRamapura cotton market, where the cotton fabrics are sold by weight.
This is the cloth I bought, very beautiful pink cotton cloth with birds prints on it :
I just want to keep it simple. Hope to share the completed quilt next WIP post.
Meanwhile , competed a saree designing. I had a fabric, with thread work weaving on it. I liked the fabric.
It has thread work motif all over. At first, selected a chocolate brown silk cotton to design a saree in combination with this fabric. Then changed the idea, to use Chanderi silk cotton with a small border.
Here is the saree I designed:
I cut wide strips of the fabric, and attached it along the border.
Here I haven’t used any shiny materials, to keep it very simple and elegant. This can be worn as casual wear too. I havent designed the blouse yet. A small piece of thread work fabric is remaining. I will design a blouse with brown khadi silk and the remaining fabric. Soon will share that design too.

Wow, this is really interesting. My wife also belongs to this field. I will forward your blog to her and maybe you both can connect on some common areas!
Great! Keep blogging! 🙂
I loved the saree that you have designed. It is simple and elegant. Waiting for quilting work to complete so that I can see the result.
I love patch work quilts. I agree that they make for fab gifts. You have transformed the saree, it is looking so chic and elegant. You are so creative and talented, Ranjana! ♥
Wonderful 🙂
